Notes from Children & Family Ministries

Notes from Children & Family Ministries

We hope everyone stayed safe and warm during the "winter wonderland" these past few days.  It's nice to have an excuse to stay home and play in the snow once in a while.

Due to inclement weather, Tuesday's BBC is canceled.  We will meet again in April.

Lent starts with Ash Wednesday on February 17th.  It is a time to show our love for God by singing, praying and serving others.  We will be sending home an activity calendar next week.  There are several activities to help your family get ready for Easter.

February 2010: Love

February 2010: Love

A friend loves at all times...  Proverbs 17:17

This month we will learn about love and sharing God's love with each other. Loving each other is one of the most important rules that God gives us in the Bible about how to treat others. Friends help one another and show God's love to each other, even when it's difficult.

Hope for Haiti

The Raleigh District of the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church (which includes St. Mark's UMC) has been asked to collect food items for kits that will be shipped and distributed to Haiti. If you would like to bring a donation to the church the information is below.

Food Items:
· New, unopened & sealed bag of dried beans (1 or 2 lb bag)
· New, unopened & sealed bag of rice (1 or 2 lb bag)
· New, unopened cans of vegetables (any size with pop top lid)
· New, unopened cans of fruits (any size with pop top lid)

- Food can be boxed in containers with the weight being              no more than 60 pounds.
- If possible, please box items in “like” parcels, i.e., all bags of rice in one box, all canned goods in one box, all beans in one box.
- If you have already containerized your collected goods in another manner, it is fine. Take them to your district collection sites as you have containerized them.

St. Mark’s UMC will be collecting all donations in the Watts Parlor. As long as the building is open, we are able to receive items.
Thank you for you time, talents, gifts, and service!
